"Next Top Cosplayer!"
Since the events conception, Kitchener Comic Con has always featured a costume contest, to showcase the wonderfulness and the artistic uniqueness of costume design and to give an enriched artistic platform to the event attendees of event and the citizens of Region of Waterloo though none have seen the success that became the annual event "Next Top Cosplayer!"
This is the story of how our costume contest event came to be.
In early 2018, one of our team members - Michael Lee Fox, lost his battle with depression.
Michael was a pillar of the Region of Waterloo cosplay community, and was always an advocate for inclusion, and for cosplayers; coming up with innovative and creative costume designs, in some of his most famous "Canadian Marty McFly" and "Canadian Daredevil" original cosplays.
As Michael donated his time to make his environment better for everybody, the Kitchener Comic Con event team decided to focus and dedicate the event cosplay competition to give up-and-coming cosplayers the opportunity and spotlight to showcase their incredible talent in his loving and caring memory.
Within his loving memory, Kitchener Comic Con continues to support the Canadian Mental Health Association, and is proud to bring this event back year after year for all to enjoy!
Michael was a Top Cosplayer who cared for the creativity of the art, a stand-up individual for those who were in need, someone who sincerely and generally cared for everyone who he called a friend.
Truly a person before his time and will be missed but not forgotten.
Onwards and upwards for a better future.
This year's Kitchener Comic Con will be hosting the second annual "Next Top Cosplayer!" competition. This costume competition is a great way to showcase your costume/cosplay!
Registration is required to be a part of the competition and can be completed before the show here, or on the day of the show at the registration desk.
Registration can be completed "solo" or "as a group". Please note that competing as a group, the categories for judging remain the same and are based on your group as a whole.
Judging Craftsmanship and Information
There will be a panel of judges, selected from our cosplay guests. Judging of the craftsmanship of the entry is a significant portion of the scorecard, and while it is optional to submit your costume to craftsmanship judging, by not doing so will forfeit that portion of the scoring.
Additionally, it is advised to provide visual representation of the referenced cosplay when you arrive at the green room, prior to judging. This will assist judges in marking the accuracy/originality and creativity of your representation.
Please note that while only the Top 3 choices will place for prizes, additional categories such as "Judge's Choice" and "Honorable Mention" will be awarded at the judge's discretion.
